Safety Management
It is the responsibility of sports grounds management to ensure that all safety personnel are trained and competent to undertake both their normal duties and their roles under the management’s emergency and contingency plans.
The Guide to Safety at Sports Grounds advises that stewards working at sports grounds should have or be working towards obtaining a level 2 qualification in spectator safety, that supervisors should have or be working towards a level 3 and safety officers should have or be working towards a level 4.
Training must be conducted by occupationally competent persons using suitable training resources and material that will provide the relevant underpinning knowledge to satisfy the requirements for the relevant National Occupational Standards. The SGSA has worked closely with SkillsActive to assist with the development of the National Occupational Standards in spectator safety for stewards, supervisors and safety officers.
