QUESTION: Where can I find information on training for stewards, supervisors and safety officers?

It is the responsibility of sports ground management to ensure that all safety personnel are trained and competent to undertake both their normal duties and their roles under the management's emergency and contingency plans.

Training must be conducted by occupationally competent persons using suitable training resources and material that will provide the relevant underpinning knowledge to satisfy the requirements of the National Occupational Standards for those relevant vocational qualifications.

The National Occupational Standards (NOS) in Spectator Safety for stewards, supervisors and safety officers has been determined and published by SkillsActive.

Spectator Safety has standards at three levels of responsibility:

Level 2 Stewards

Level 3 Supervisors

Level 4 Safety officers

Only organisations accredited by OfQual may award these spectator safety qualifications. If you require any information on local approved centres or training providers please contact one of the awarding bodies.
