Ian Darler - Cambridge United

The Cambridge United V Manchester United was the biggest game seen at the Abbey stadium since the eighties all the pre-match information from both F.I.O and the Manchester safety officer was very accurate,

We had stewards outside the stadium at soft ticketing areas which worked very well during the build up to the game, a large number of Manchester supporters were turned away without tickets.

One minute after kick-off three areas of the stadium were charged by a large number of supporters who broke through steward and police lines and then forced entries occurred at the turnstiles and other locations within the stadium one turnstile was broken during the forced entry .

Stewards and police ejected 47 supporters who had forced entry in to the stadium and the stewards did an outstanding job, I had worked very closely with the Manchester United S/O leading up to the game and he attended on the night and was very supportive. He also arranged for ten Manchester stewards to assist on the night who proved to be very helpful.

All in all a very busy night when stewards , police and all staff in the control room did a very professional job it just shows how important team work really is.
