The Guide to Safety at Sports Grounds (Green Guide) 6th Edition
Following the Government’s spending review announcement in November, the SGSA has been successful in securing funding to develop the 6th edition of the Guide to Safety at Sports Grounds, commonly known as the Green Guide.
First published in 1973, the Green Guide has become the world’s leading guidance for the safety of spectators at sports grounds and it is used by professionals to inform the design and management of sports grounds around the world.
The current edition published in 2008, will be reviewed and updated to reflect the latest research, changes in technology and understanding of safety of sports grounds.
The guide will reflect the developments in safety management and stadia design brought about through advances in computer software, it will advise on current fan behaviours and will reflect current issues through its guidance on counter terrorism. It will also seek to harmonise advice with emerging CEN standards relating to Spectator Facilities and will further reinforce the guidance as a tool for all sports with sports grounds.
The two-year project, led by Inspector Ken Scott will begin in January 2016 with an initial consultation period with partners and stakeholders. The 6th edition is expected to be on the bookshelves at the end of 2017.
