Laura Strong joins the SGSA
The Sports Grounds Safety Authority (SGSA) welcomes Laura Strong to the SGSA team. Laura joins from Sport Northern Ireland where she was most recently the Acting Manager of the Safety Compliance Team, overseeing the Safety at Sports Grounds legislation for Northern Ireland. She was involved in building up close working relationships with all stakeholder groups and providing advice and guidance as well as oversight of the safety certification process for the 30 designated sports grounds in Northern Ireland. Laura was a member of the Safety Technical Groups for the 3 stadia in Belfast being redeveloped under the Regional Stadia Programme in Northern Ireland.
Laura has also worked as event controller and safety adviser for many large sporting, music and cultural events in Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland, ensuring the safety of audiences of more than 60,000. She is also a Chartered Environmental Health Practitioner and has been an active member of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health Regional Management Group for Northern Ireland for the last 5 years.
Laura Strong says, “I am excited to be taking up this new role and working with the SGSA team. I am passionate about sport and safety, I understand the value that sport and events can bring to a community and look forward to working to ensure spectator safety at stadia in the North West.”
Laura’s addition to the team completes the recruitment process following Ken Scott’s appointment to the new position of Chief Inspector in April as part of the SGSA’s new 5-year strategy.
Ken Scott says, “I am delighted to welcome Laura to the team. We now have a full complement of Inspectors with a diverse range of skills and expertise from across the spectator safety spectrum that allows us to provide quality, expert advice and guidance to all our stakeholders and ensures we are best placed to meet our ambitious strategic plan.”
