Sports Grounds Safety Authority (SGSA) response to issues at the London Stadium

It was disappointing to see the incidents that occurred on Saturday 10 March as West Ham played Burnley at the London Stadium.

Everyone in a sports ground should be able to be there in safety. The primary responsibility for safety rests with the ground management who must ensure that the General Safety Certificate conditions and other safety obligations are adhered to.

The Local Authority is responsible for issuing the General Safety Certificate for the stadium and will be convening a Safety Advisory Group meeting to discuss the issues and agree an approach to avoid a repeat of these incidents in the future.

The safety of everyone in the ground must be a priority and the SGSA will continue to monitor the situation and ensure the Local Authority, the Police, the stadium operator and West Ham United continue to work together to ensure safety is not compromised.
