The Sports Grounds Safety Authority (SGSA) response to the issues at the London Stadium

We are disappointed to see the incidents that occurred at the London Stadium yesterday (Wednesday 26 October).

Despite the ongoing efforts of all those involved in keeping spectators safe at the stadium, the incidents appear to show a minority of spectators engaging in inappropriate behaviour that threatened the safety and enjoyment of other supporters.

There have been a number of challenges as a result of West Ham’s move to the London Stadium and some criticism of the stewarding, policing and the ticket allocation process. The behaviour of some spectators at last night’s game was unacceptable, but the safety plans and additional measures that were put in place, and the swift police response to the incidents ensured they were as contained as possible.

The safety of all spectators must remain a priority and the SGSA will continue to monitor the situation and ensure the Local Authority, the Police, the stadium operator and West Ham United continue to work together to ensure the safety of spectators is not compromised.
