The SGSA welcomes two new inspectors into the team; Andy Robinson and Peter Weymes.

Andy Robinson joins from the Home Office where he was Assistant Director at the UK Football Policing Unit. Prior to that role Andy had a long career in the police service where he specialised in planning and delivering sporting, ceremonial and other major events. He has worked at many football venues in the UK and internationally and has worked on the London Euro 1996, the London Olympic and Paralympic Games and numerous international and league football matches. He was Head of the UK Government delegation to the Council of Europe Standing Committee on Spectator Violence and is also a fully qualified Safety Officer.

Peter Weymes’s background is in building services, and he has worked in facilities management and technical services for several hotel chains and most recently as Facilities Manager at Sunderland Association Football Club (SAFC). He was responsible for the development of the SAFC Academy and a Hilton Garden Inn adjacent to the Stadium as well as planning of SAFC partnerships sports facilities in Tanzania and Nigeria.

Peter was also involved in facilitating concerts at the Stadium of Light with audiences of more than 55,000 and understands the challenges that this brings.

The SGSA’s Chief Inspector, Ken Scott says “I am delighted to welcome Peter Weymes and Andy Robinson to the team and look forward to working with them.

“The SGSA has experts with a broad range of skill sets and experiences. Peter and Andy will reinforce these and extend our capability, providing significant value to the organisation. Their skills and experiences will support the SGSA in delivering its regulatory responsibilities and its wider commercial aims.

You will see Andy and Peter at matches and Safety Advisory Group meetings around the country. They are both looking forward to meeting our stakeholders and working together to ensure spectators have safe and enjoyable experiences at sports grounds.”

Andy said “I am very much looking forward to working for the SGSA and meeting stakeholders to support the good work that goes on to keep spectators safe at sports grounds.”

Peter said ”It is wonderful opportunity to be part of the SGSA team and I look forward to working with partners to maintain and improve the high levels of safety that have been achieved in the UK.”
