Pitch perimeter track – means of egress

Posted by SGSA  |  Filed under Spectators

Section 9.12 of the Guide to Safety at Sports Grounds acknowledges that in certain cases forward evacuation onto the pitch may form part of the evacuation route provided that it leads directly to an exit which itself leads to a place of safety.

While the use of the pitch perimeter track may be reasonable in an emergency it is not constructed as an exit route and the SGSA does not consider it suitable for use as such during normal exiting at the end of a match. Egress via the perimeter track should not be taken into consideration when determining the normal exiting capacity of any stand
